Benzyl Alcohol

Benzyl alcohol is used as a preservative for ointment, as a desiccant for fibers, nylon silk and plastic films, as a stabilizer for polyvinyl chloride, as a photographic developer, as a solvent for acetate fibers, inks, coatings, paints, epoxy resin coatings, dyes, casein, shellac and gelatin, and as an intermediate for the preparation of benzyl esters or ethers. It is also used in Chemicalbook to make fragrances and flavorings (mostly benzyl esters of fatty acids) as additives in soaps, perfumes, cosmetics and other products. It is used as a discriminant for quartz and wool fibers because it has almost the same refractive index as quartz and wool fibers. Used in the fragrance industry as a fixing agent and diluent
